Ann Schuster Dix, 91, of Sun City Hilton Head, Bluffton, SC died February 26, 2024. Born in Worcester, MA July 21, 1932 to the late Winfield and Eleanor Freeman Schuster, Granddaughter of Walter and Lena Aldrich Schuster and George and Florence Freeman. She is survived by her husband Eugene C. Dix of 69 years, Sandra Jack and husband Thomas and granddaughter Sarah Jack of Cranston, RI and Wendell and Deanna Dix of Howell, NJ and grandchildren Mackenzie and Travis Dix and Patti Dix wife of the late Winfield S. Dix and grandson Kasey Dix.
In her early years she lived in Douglas, MA. She graduated from the Walnut Hill School where she was active in field hockey and tennis, Pine Manor College, and The University of Vermont and The Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. Ann married in 1954 and moved to New York City where she worked as a secretary at Colgate Palmolive and Peet Company and was a member of the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. In 1958 her growing family moved to Princeton, NJ and she soon became involved in her children’s activities in sports and scouting and her tennis and bridge groups – golf at Springdale Gold Club, the township Republican Party and the Nassau Presbyterian Church.
After moving back to Douglas, MA, she renewed her interest in golf at Pleasant Valley Golf Club and Quinnatisset Club in Putnam, CT where she played in the womens groups and mixed activities. Her real love was in the times spent in the Berkshires where she cross-country skied in the state parks and golfed at the Worthington and Ashfield Golf Tennis Clubs – also taking a major role in the never ending activities of winter hikes, sailing, tennis, cooking and canning and especially the daily golf and bridge games. In her retiring years at Sun City Hilton Head, she still kept active with her tennis, bridge, croquet, birding, golf where she scored two hole-in-ones, and volunteer work at the First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island.
Three years ago, Ann was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and moved to Benton House of Bluffton’s Memory Care Facility. At Benton House she enjoyed listened to music, dancing, dining with her fellow residents. The family would like to thank the Memory Care Staff at Benton House and especially caretakers Kenia Robertson and Cindy Paine.
