Charles Huff Obituary

Charles Joseph "Joe" Huff, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of his community, passed away on February 28th, 2024, in Bluffton, South Carolina, where he had resided since 2006. Joe was born on March 31st, 1941, in Michigan to Charles Clayton Huff ("Clayton") and Margaret Huff ("Peg"). At the age of three months, Joe moved to New York, where he spent the majority of his life.

Joe married Mona Levine Huff on October 13, 1984. Together, they shared a life filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories. Joe was the proud father of Charles Ryan Huff, known as "Ryan," born on April 19th, 1986. Additionally, he was overjoyed to be a grandfather to Charles Spence Huff, known as "Spence," born on June 13, 2022.

Joe pursued his education at the University of Notre Dame, where he laid the foundation for a successful career and a life devoted to service. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and served his country with honor in the United States Army from February 19th, 1964, to February 1966.

Joe began his professional journey at J Walter Thompson before embarking on a 34-year tenure as the Director of IT at The Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Company, where he made significant contributions until his retirement in 2006.

Beyond his professional achievements, Joe's true passion lay with his family and community. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and husband, prioritizing time with his loved ones and supporting them in all their endeavors.

Joe's commitment to volunteerism was unwavering, leaving an indelible mark on numerous organizations throughout his life.  During his time in New York, Joe dedicated himself to various causes, including the American Legion Pelham Post 50, where he served in various leadership roles. He was also actively involved in coaching Ryan in sports, including Little League, where he remained engaged even after Ryan had aged out.

Upon relocating to South Carolina in 2006, Joe continued his commitment to service, becoming deeply involved with Meals on Wheels of Hilton Head/Bluffton, serving in various leadership positions as well as being a driver himself for 14 years. He was also a pillar of his community of Rose Hill, holding various roles, including POA Board President. Additionally, he was an usher for Lean Ensemble, a local theater production company, and a staunch supporter of the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, both showcasing his passion for arts and culture.

Joe was an avid reader, often immersing himself in multiple books at once. An avid sports enthusiast, Joe passionately supported his favorite teams, including all the original New York sports teams—the Yankees, Giants, Knicks, and Rangers, as well as Notre Dame college athletics and the Iona Gaels college basketball team.

He and Mona also shared a love of travel, exploring destinations both domestically and internationally, including Alaska, the National Parks, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, and the Baltics.

Joe's kindness, generosity, and selflessness will forever endure in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and community that will continue to inspire generations to come.

A funeral service for Joe will be held on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lean Ensemble (https://ci.ovationtix.com/35451/store/donations/34902) or Meals on Wheels of Bluffton-Hilton Head (https://www.mowblufftonhiltonhead.org/donate-today) in Joe's memory.
