David Lyle II Obituary

David Arthur Lyle, II was born in Barberton, Ohio on October 9, 1952. He died suddenly, but peacefully, in his home in Bluffton, SC on February 28, 2024.

Dave led an exceptional 25-year career with Lockheed Martin. Retiring as Director of Capture Excellence for Information Systems and Global Solutions in the Washington DC-area, Dave was responsible for the largest and most complex business development efforts in the company.

Beginning as a Capture Manager, Dave’s knowledge of the customer, the business, and his success at motivating a team quickly set him apart. He led and won the company’s most significant programs. Recognizing Dave’s importance to the strategic direction of the entire business area, he was promoted to Director of Capture Excellence. Here, his ability to build relationships, craft strategies and capture business was unparalleled. Dave’s track record in winning the largest and most strategic efforts culminated in him being awarded the prestigious Eagle Award of Excellence a record three times.

Beyond his business acumen, Dave was respected and admired for going out of his way to help a colleague in need, mentor new employees coming into the business, and generously sharing expertise he had developed over the years.

Dave loved retirement and his many wonderful neighbors in Bluffton, SC. He golfed often and participated in the Senior Men's Golf Association of Hilton Head. He volunteered annually at the RBC Heritage and Congaree golf tournaments where he helped support Caddie Operations, among other roles. He could tell you about every restaurant in the area and often dragged his friends along with him! He had a heart of gold and would tell never ending stories! Dave could often be found at his local church in the middle of the night in Holy Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament or taking his friends out on a boat in the May River. He played his guitar in the folk group for over 15 years at his church in the DC area. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and could cite stats going back 50 years!

He loved his precious children Julianne and David, along with David's wife Caitlin. His first grandchild Aviana, to whom he was affectionately called "Buck," was born in August and the love he had for her was immeasurable.

He is survived by his wife Ann of almost 40 years. Also, his brother Denny Lyle of Toledo, Ohio; his brother-in-law John Antonelli of Barberton, Ohio; his sister-in-law Karin of Lincoln, NE; his nieces Delani Lyle and Jenelle Hoseus and his nephew Jared Lyle. He was preceded in death by his mother Irene, his father Art, his brother James and his sister Carole Antonelli.

In lieu of flowers, one of Dave's passions was supporting the First Tee of the Lowcountry whose mission is to empower kids and teens through the game of golf. Donations may be mailed to:
