Patricia Ann (Goonan) Smith

Patricia A. Smith was called home on March 7, 2024, after a brief illness. 

Patricia was born on March 9, 1940, in the Bronx, New York, the youngest of three children, to Patrick and Mary (Geraghty) Goonan.  She graduated from St. Vincents Nursing School in 1961.  She met the love of her life, James F. Smith Jr. at the Jersey Shore.  They married and settled in Union, New Jersey, where they raised their family. 

Patricia was a nurse at various facilities in New Jersey before retiring to South Carolina in 2000, where she then volunteered at Volunteers in Medicine on Hilton Head Island. 

She was the loving mother of Stephen Smith and Christine Smith.  She was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Mary Goonan, her sister Mary O’Keeffe, her sister-in-law Eleanor Goonan, and her husband of 50 years, James F. Smith Jr.  She is survived by her brother Patrick Goonan (Wheaton, IL) and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m., at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, in Bluffton followed by a burial at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort at 1:00 p.m.
