In loving memory of Robert Winfield Broome, 75, who departed on March 3 at Benton House in Bluffton, South Carolina. Known affectionately as Bob or Bobby, he was born on May 19, 1948 in Monroe, North Carolina.
Preceded in death by his wife, Grace Rivers Broome, and parents, Boyd Douglas Broome and Marian Horton Broome. Survived by daughter Paige and son-in-law Jonathan Bragg, along with granddaughters Vada Grace Bragg and Maci Bryn Bragg. Also survived by siblings Douglas [Betsy] Broome, Melinda “Betty” Broome Lee, Kathy [Herman] Schwalbe, Ronald Leonard Broome, and nieces and nephews.
Bob, a Bluffton High School graduate, served honorably in the United States Army, displaying courage and earning a Purple Heart during his tours in Vietnam. Post-military, he pursued his passion for deep-sea fishing, becoming a respected boat captain with numerous tournament awards.
A man of strong brotherhood bonds, he found camaraderie in the Shriners, dedicating years to raising funds for children at the Shriner’s Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.
Bob's enduring love for family, the outdoors, animals, and his unmatched sense of humor define him as a beloved first child, protective big brother, devoted daddy, and Papa. His legacy lives on as a model of strength and resilience.
A memorial service will be held at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC on Thursday, March 21. Visitation will be from 4-5pm and a funeral service will begin at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Shriners Hospital Greenville:
