John P. Briody



John P. Briody, age 50, of Bluffton and formerly of LaGrangeville, NY died Monday, August 28, 2017 at Hilton Head Hospital.

Mr. Briody was born on January 5, 1967 in Jamaica, NY. He was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and following his graduation began his career in New York and Connecticut. He later worked as the sous chef for the Hyatt-Savannah, later rising to the level of executive chef with the Country Club of Hilton Head, Colleton River and Palmetto Bluff. He ultimately became the executive chef and owner of Walnuts Café in Bluffton. Many local chefs who knew him as “Chef John” respected his experience and looked up to him as a mentor.

John is survived by his son, Patrick Briody; daughter, Megan Briody; mother of their children, Maureen Briody; parents, Theresa and Raymond Briody; brother, Raymond Briody (Dawn); and nephew, Christopher Briody.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909.
