James Vincent Rizzo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, died at home in Bluffton, SC on September 5 at the age of 80, from complications of pancreatic cancer.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years Patricia (Murphy) Rizzo; daughters Julie Rizzo of Plymouth, MA, Robyn LaFrance of S. Weymouth, MA, and Lynette Rizzo of New York, NY; grandchildren Shane Rizzo, Danielle Harrington, and Michael LaFrance; sister Jeannie Rizzo; and many close friends and relatives in MA, SC, and Scotland. He is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret (Robinson) and Frank Rizzo.
Jim was born on March 30, 1937 in Weymouth, MA. A veteran of the United States Navy, he graduated from Northeastern University in 1978 with a degree in industrial management and worked for more than 30 years at Jervis B. Webb Company as a mechanical engineer. He married Pat, a longtime Cambridge, MA public schoolteacher, in 1972. They lived in Stoneham, MA until retiring to South Carolina in 2006.
Jim’s family and friends will remember him for his kindness, his calm and steady demeanor, and the intelligence that made him an unbeatable armchair Jeopardy contestant. He was an ardent sports fan, ever loyal to his hometown Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Jim spent countless happy hours on the golf course, and also enjoyed scuba diving and sailing, a hobby that led to the honor of Commodore of the Quannapowitt Yacht Club in 2003. As an avid traveler, he was always eager to share tales, trivia, and photos from his and Pat’s latest trip. He was an active and dedicated member of Saint Patrick’s parish in Stoneham, and most recently of Saint Anthony’s in Hardeeville, SC.
Friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life at a Funeral Mass scheduled for 10:30am on Saturday, September 16 at Saint Anthony Mission Catholic Church, 13049 Whyte Hardee Blvd. in Hardeeville. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by Tidewater Hospice of Bluffton or Saint Anthony Mission Catholic Church. Condolences can be sent to www.saulsfh.com

Dick and I played cards with Jim and Pat every Wednesday since they moved to Sun City. We loved his sense of humor and his wonderful disposition. He and Dick played a lot of golf together and enjoyed laughing over their golf scores. We will deeply miss Jim and know he is in a better place with the Lord.
