Jack Ivan Bang, 87, of Bluffton, SC passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at his son’s residence on Hilton Head Island, SC. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on March 21, 1922. He was the son of the late Lester John and Viola Garlick Bang. He was a Division Vice President for McGraw-Hill Book Company. He was an avid boater and golfer. He was a life time member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was the founding member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary unit in Clinton, CT. He was a member of the Power Squadron. He was a highly decorated Army veteran who served in the South Pacific and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with clusters. He was a private pilot. He played football for Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Orr Bang; two children, Byron and his wife, Helen Bang of Hilton Head Island, SC and Sally and her husband Curtis Volgamore of Helotes, TX; five stepchildren, Jim and wife, Marissa Combs of Mesa, AR, Bill Combs of Concord, NC, Joe Combs of Farmer City, IL, Kevin Combs of Savannah, GA and Johnnie and wife, Tamera Combs of Grundy, VA; two grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren.
