Obituary:
Herman (Sonny) Cobb died suddenly on Tuesday, January 6, 2010 in Bluffton, S.C. He was born in 1934 in Atlanta, GA and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucy Keating Cobb. He is also survived by daughter, Lucy Martin Cobb, her husband, Ron Lynch, and granddaughter, Meaghan Keating Lynch, all of Nantucket, MA. A graduate of Emory University, but a lifelong Georgia Bulldogs fan, Sonny was an avid golfer and tennis athlete in his younger years and a lifetime sports enthusiast. After serving his country in Okinawa, he returned to his wife and young daughter, and to help his parents, Herman and Lota Cobb, at their store in Atlanta. He also spent time with his extended family in Winder, GA. He moved to Daytona Beach in the early 60’s with his family and his parents, where he excelled in his work as a manager, and on the golf course as the runner up in the state amateur tournament. He later had lively career working for Fieldcrest Mills in Texas and then New York. He returned home to the South in the early 80’s. Sonny enjoyed trips to Ireland and one of the last trips of the QE2 from South Africa to England with his wife, Lucy. Sonny was a wonderful storyteller, husband, father, and friend. Internment will be in the Pinckney Colony Family Cemetery in the spring.
