Wesley Leon (Cootie) Smith Jr., 68, of Early Branch, SC, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Savannah, GA.
He was born in Grays, SC on May 20, 1941. He was the son of the late Wesley Leon and Lottie Chassereau Smith.
He retired in 2003 from Palmetto Electric after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Gillisonville Baptist Church. He loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed playing practical jokes. He enjoyed working on his farm. He was a charter member of Breakfast at Jay’s Restaurant. He was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Peeples Smith of Early Branch, SC; one son, Jeffrey Leon (Donna) Smith of Mobile, AL; two daughters, Tammy S. (Jamie) Davis of Grays, SC and Carol Melissa (Alan) Rigg of Pineland, SC; three sisters, Mildred (Ralph) Stanley of Nixville, SC, Sue (Millard) Burgess of Maple Grove, MN and Ellen (Henry) Etheridge of Gillisonville, SC; five grandchildren, Josh, Jason, Rebecca, Zachary and Robert and one great grandchild, Breanna.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Gillisonville Baptist Church, Gillisonville, SC with burial in the Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery, Grays, SC. The family will receive friends from 6 til 8, Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams Street, Ridgeland, SC.
