Obituary:
Walter Eugene “Gene” Hadwin Sr., age 83, died on April 7, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Furman, South Carolina to the late Walter Eugene and Ruby Wilson Hadwin. He lived in Savannah, Georgia for over 40 years before moving to Hardeeville, South Carolina, where he has lived for the past 26 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific Regions. He was formerly part-owner of Central Motors Garage and Machine Shop, the Midas Muffler Shops, and several other automotive businesses in the Savannah area. His passions in life were the family owned farm in Hardeeville, gardening and horseback riding in the mountains. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Ann Hadwin, one sister, Eloise H. Dasher and three brothers in law, Holland Dasher, J.R. Clark Jr. and Harold Gray. Survivors include two sons, Walter Eugene Hadwin, Jr. (Angela), Ashley Jordan Hadwin (Azzy); three daughters, Traci Hadwin Elmgren (Randy), Tammy Michelle Davids (Bobby) and Brittany F. Hadwin; one stepdaughter, Terry M. Grainger (Ken); one stepson, Michael E. McFarlane (Lisa); twenty grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Arden H. Hadwin and Lynford B. Hadwin; two sisters, Barbara H. Clark and Margaret H. Porter, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hadwin is also survived by Margaret Ratliff, his beloved friend and constant companion for the past four years. Mr. Hadwin’s family will be eternally grateful for Margaret’s love and devotion to him. Visitation will be held at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, South Carolina, on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Red Dam Baptist Church in Hardeeville, South Carolina on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Internment will follow at Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery in Scotia, South Carolina with Military Honors. The family request memorial contributions be made to either Care One Home Health Care, Amedisys (23 Plantation Park Drive, Suite 503, Bluffton, SC 29910), Red Dam Baptist Church (P.O.
