Date:
December 3rd, 1937 - July 26th, 2010

Obituary:
Kenneth Outlaw passed away July 26, 2010, with his wife at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Kenneth was born December 3, 1937 in Sumter, SC, the son of the late Johnny Fletcher Outlaw of Santee, SC and the late Golden Lee Hinson Smith of Bishopville, SC. The family moved to Beaufort, SC in 1943. He attended Beaufort County schools where he graduated in 1958. He was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church. He worked with the “after lunch program” for Coastal Cabinet Works and learned what he enjoyed most, building. Later, he worked on Hilton Head for years in its beginning stages and loved telling the stories of the beautiful homes there. He wanted to serve his country like his older brother but because of his eyes, he had to stay close to home and served 21 faithful years in the National Guard as a cook. His younger years were always helping where and when he could and never were words of hurt ever spoken towards others. Kenneth will be remembered as a quiet man, slow to anger but quick to defend his loved ones and his beliefs. He always would remind us of the person that taught him of the things he was doing at the time. He loved hunting, gigging, fishing and shrimping. He loved being with his wife of 49 years, Dorothy June Mock of Ridgeland, whom he met at a high school event while in school. He loved being with June and family and shared happy moments eating crabs and fish. He would tell his nephews and nieces how things were done in hopes they would learn as he did. He loved cooking for hunting clubs and putting the blood on those young ones that got their first deer. He would take pictures, so they could relive it when they got old like him. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny Leroy and James Hazel Outlaw; sisters, Julia Allene Johns and Patricia Ann Outlaw. Survivors include his faithful and loving wife, Dorothy June Mock Outlaw of Ridgeland, three brothers, Archie Willard (Carol) Outlaw of Gillisonville, SC, Robert Lavern Outlaw of Mobile, AL and Stanley Fletcher (Patricia) Outlaw of Beaufort, SC; a sister, Mary Anntonnie (Ernest) Gregor of the Atkinson Community, GA and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 30, 2010 at Sauls Funeral Home Chapel, 310 W. Adams St. in Ridgeland, SC with burial in the Ridgeland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 til 8 pm, Thursday, June 29, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Great Swamp Baptist Church, PO Box 446, Ridgeland, SC 29936. Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland is assisting the family with their arrangements. (saulsfh.com)
