Andrew Newton Obituary

BLUFFTON, SC—Andrew D. Newton, 57, passed away with peace and grace on December 12, 2019, surrounded by family at his home in South Carolina. He was the son of the late Reverend Seth W. Newton and is survived by his mother Helen R. Newton of Mashpee, MA.

Born in Northampton, MA, he attended schools in Florence and Longmeadow, MA.  Andrew graduated from Barnstable High School in 1981 and then entered the U.S. Coast Guard where he was stationed in Chatham and Woods Hole as a Fireman, where he received the Commendation Medal and the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation with Operational Distinguishing Device for the heroic rescue of the Venture I.  Upon completion of his service, he spent the early part of his career working in construction and insurance businesses on Cape Cod.

Andrew went on to earn a degree in information technology from Clark University’s Computer Career Institute. While at Clark, he met his wife, Sherri.  He enjoyed a long and successful career in information systems with Staples, Inc.

For the past 10 years, he called Bluffton, SC, his home. There, he fed his deep love for the ocean with year round sailing, boat building, and scuba diving.  He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, and traveling with his beloved dog. Andrew was known for his sense of humor and was generous with his time and talents, and loved to help others with his ability to fix most anything.

Andrew will be sadly missed by his wife, Sherri (Turner) Newton, and his son Andrew (Drew) Newton, Jr. of Yarmouth, MA, as well as his siblings: Seth H. Newton of Franklin, MA; Barbara P. Manchester and husband Thomas of Falmouth, MA; Tyler F. Newton and wife Karen of Fredericksburg, VA. He was the brother of the late Roger W. Newton. He also leaves grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Due to restrictions on travel and social gatherings the memorial service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA has been postponed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Dr, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA. 91607, or www.myeloma.org.
