Barbara Myrle Canham

Barbara Canham, age 85, of Hilton Head passed away peacefully at her home on January 10, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.  Barbara was born in the Boston, MA area, the oldest daughter of Francis Fennessy and Myrle Breed.  She later relocated to Chicagoland area with her sister Frances.  Soon afterwards, Barbara met the love of her life, her husband Bob. Together “B and B” spent the next 40 years in Illinois, happily raising their family as Barbara developed a career as an executive secretary. In 1993, Barbara and Bob retired to paradise (Hilton Head Island).  The Canhams resided in Port Royal Plantation and Barbara was very active in the art club, garden club and the women’s coffee.  She was very proud of her Boston heritage. Her family were descendants of Breeds Hill (actual location of the Battle of Bunker Hill) and was therefore a Daughter of the American Revolution.  She is survived by her adoring husband of 57 years Robert (Bob) Canham, daughter Jane Mayer, Sons Dr. James Canham (Jeanie) and Daniel Canham(Cherie); all of whom followed their parents to Hilton Head. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and twin great granddaughters. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church on Saturday January 19th at 10:30 am followed by a reception in Family Center.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
