Betty Bergman Obituary

Betty Lou (Payne) Bergman passed peacefully into the arms of her Beloved Lord on November 10, 2019 at the age of ninety.  She was born December 13, 1928 in Grove City, Ohio to Dewey and Elizabeth (Edinger) Payne.  When she was only four years old her father was tragically killed in an industrial fire and Betty and her 3 sisters were raised by their loving grandmother, Doshia Edinger.  Betty was preceded in death by her 3 sisters, Helen Davidson, Alberta Walls and Mary Ann Healy.  Betty graduated from South High School, Columbus, Ohio.

Betty Payne and Richard Bergman were united  in marriage March 23, 1946.  She was widowed July 20, 1978.  Betty is survived by son Dick (& Diana) Bergman and daughter Diane (& Jim) Atkins.  She was proud grandmother to LeAnn, Brandon, Brett (& Jennifer) Bergman; James (& Sarah) Atkins and Richard (& Bozanka) Atkins.  She was affectionately known as Grandma BB to great grandchildren Caleb and Brayden Bergman and Benjamin, Audrey, Lyrah, Octavia and Augustin Atkins.  She leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.  The family will forever be grateful for the special loving care she received in her last years from Lynn and Steve Newsom, Mary Chapman and caregiver Anita Beckner as well as the caring staff at Carmel Hills In Charlotte and the Benton House of Bluffton where she spent her final years.

Betty began her career in civil service as a clerk typist with the Defense Construction Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio.  She advanced quickly in her career and retired in 1984 with 33 years of service as a Personnel Supervisor.  After her retirement she was able to pursue her life long interest in missions and began her work with the Church of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and teaching English as a second language.  She dedicated her life to studying and teaching God’s Word, impacting many lives through her Christian example.  Her life was defined by love and faithfulness to God and her family.  Her family rejoices and takes comfort in the promise of her resurrection to everlasting life in Christ Jesus.

Services will be held at Evans Funeral Home, 4171 East Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio.  The family will receive friends between 2:00 and 4:00 pm Sunday, November 17, 2019.  Memorial service will be held Monday, November 18, 2019 at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow at Glen Rest Cemetery, 8029 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
