Robert D. Kozlowski, 78 years old, died at home with his family on Nov. 23, 2018, in Bluffton, SC. He was the son of Stanley and Elizabeth Centrella Kozlowski. His maternal grandparents, Serafino and Clementine Bruno Centrella of Winsted, CT emigrated from Puglia, Italy. His paternal grandparents Vincent and Stephanie Ruhalski Kozlowski of Torrington, CT emigrated from Poland. Bob was born and raised in Winsted, Connecticut, graduated from the Gilbert School and Central Connecticut College. His career with IBM took him to Tarrytown, New York and Raleigh, North Carolina, where he lived for 35 years, prior to retiring with his wife Nancy to Bluffton, South Carolina in 2006.
He enjoyed team sports and played high school basketball, college football and was recruited to play the tuba for the high school band because he was big enough to carry it. Bob loved the rituals and courtesies of sport. He always played tennis and golf to win and reveled in friendly competition. Bob had a deep appreciation of the arts and an eye for design. He enjoyed classes in painting and sculpture, Chinese language lessons, making family caricatures and visiting museums. He was a very sociable and charming man with a playful sense of humor who took life seriously. He loved the comfort and companionship of shared religious ritual and celebration and especially enjoyed the warmth of the congregation of the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Gibson Kozlowski and the children of his first marriage, son Brett, and daughters Beth and Karen (David Taporco) and his beloved grandson Ryan Taporco, his sister Joyce Pequignot of Kent, Connecticut, brother Stanley (Sara) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and 10 nieces and nephews whom he enjoyed very much.
