On April 28, 2019, Genevieve “Gensie” Padgett Shuman, age 90, passed away at the home of her daughter Beth, in Centerville, UT. She was born to Eva (Dubois), Padgett and Hugo Sheridan Padgett in Smoaks, South Carolina on September 17, 1928.
She is survived by Ty Shuman, of Ridgeland, SC, Pam Shuman Packer (Spencer) of Centerville, Utah, Marcia Shuman Burell of Kaysville, Utah and Beth Shuman Goff (Gary) of Centerville, Utah.
Gensie is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was valiant in serving within the church, from playing the piano for meetings, to teaching early morning seminary. She loved our Savior, Jesus Christ, and ministered to others as He would have. Gensie served numerous people in the county and enjoyed baking her delicious pies and taking them to those in need.
Gensie wore many hats in the years she worked. She was a taxi driver, worked at the Palms Restaurant, Wayne Line, Clemson Extension, and retired from the Jasper County Assessor’s Office.
Gensie was a great mom, and friend to all she came in contact with. She had a great sense of humor which was sharp until the end.
For the past two years Gensie was cared for by her daughters, loved by grandchildren & great grandchildren, leaving all with treasured memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tyrone Shuman, son Joseph, daughter Geneva, parents Hugo & Eva Padgett, brothers, Lonnie and Hugo, sisters Retha, Ora and grandson Will Packer.
She leaves behind four children, 16 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and a county of friends. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Ridgeland Ward. No viewing will be held. The family will receive friends following the burial at Ridgeland Cemetery.
