Gregory Alvey Obituary

Gregory Wayne Alvey, 53, of Bluffton, SC, went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2019.  Greg was born on August 7th, 1966 in Louisville, KY to Raymond and Barbara Alvey.  He leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Kelly Alvey, and their children Benjamin, Emmaline, and Samuel.  He is also survived by his parents, Raymond and Barbara Alvey of Denton, TX; his brother Eric and spouse, Luis Bodington, of Dallas, TX; his mother-in-law, Mary Anne Sweet, of Hilton Head, SC; his sister-in-law, Kristen Sweet and spouse Brent Magurno, and nieces Abigail and Lily of Wappingers Fall, NY; and many other family and friends.

Greg graduated from Plano East Senior High School in 1984 and attended the University of North Texas.  He left early to pursue work in the IT industry which took him as far as Alaska before returning to Dallas. Most recently, he was employed as a Sales Engineer for Cytracom.

In the 1990s Greg attended Northwest Bible Church and began to grow in his walk with God. He served in their Evangelism Training program which stretched his faith while he shared the gospel on the streets of Dallas.  Through this program, he made life-long friends and met his wife, Kelly.

Before recently relocating to Bluffton, SC, Greg and Kelly lived in Wylie, Tx for 17 years.   They were active members of Watermark Community Church and were also involved in the ministry of Joni &Friends whose purpose is “to share the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and give practical help to people with disabilities”.  Their annual trip to the Joni &Friends Family Retreat was the highlight of their year as it offered them opportunities to serve and be served.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at 10:00 am at Watermark Community Church’s Plano Campus (6400 K Ave, Plano, TX 75074).  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the ministry of Joni & Friends (https://www.joniandfriends.org/) in Greg’s name.
