Walker, Harold W. (Harry), 71, passed away at home in Bluffton, SC on Sunday, October 14th.He was born on August 29, 1947 to Harold W. Walker Sr. and Lula Case Walker. His parents predeceased him along with his sister, Dorothy Kingman and granddaughter, Amber Dawn Frazier.
Survivors include his wife Linda H. Cardwell Walker-Bluffton, son William (Billy) ((Ami)), daughter Ronda (David) Hauss, grandchildren Krista, Peyton, Aubrey, Ryan, Bradley and great-grandson Brantley – Louisville, brother-in-law Ron Hildenbrand – Bluffton, sister-in-law Sharon Hildenbrand – Louisville and sisters Edie Walker, Darla Ortman and Shirley Burden – Dayton, OH.
Harry was born in Dayton, OH and left home at 16 years old to join the Army. They sent him back home to return at 18 years of age, which he did. He completed a tour of duty in Vietnam and Germany and then moved to Louisville, KY upon discharge from the Army. He joined the Louisville Fire Department in 1969 where he remained until his retirement in 1990. In 2006, he and Linda retired to Bluffton, SC to enjoy the good life. His ‘free time’ was spent volunteering with the American Red Cross in Bluffton and Savannah, GA. He was an instructor teaching CPR classes and working with the Disaster Action Team and Disaster Recovery Efforts. He shared Savannah’s history as a Docent at the Green-Meldrim House until his health declined. He was a member of the Carolina Dreamers Car Club in Bluffton and loved cruising in his 1957 Chevy Bel Air, aka “The Other Woman” and participating in local fund raisers.
He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church serving as an Usher, Eucharistic Minister and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Harry loved sharing his passion of local history, eating lunch out and being the social entertainment director no matter the gathering. He loved family and was so proud of his children and grandchildren, loved his many friends and lived life to the fullest. He will be sorely missed.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 18th, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Dr., with burial following at Beaufort National Cemetery at 1pm. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm, Wednesday, October 17th, at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd in Bluffton.
