Joyce Charlene Woods Cook McCallister, age 87 was born in Hardeeville SC on September 26, 1931 to the late Herman Woods and Mattie Mae Wilson Woods. Joyce passed away on October 11, 2018 at her home in Ridgeland surrounded by her family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, John David Cook Jr. and Tommie Lee McCallister and her sister, Peggy Woods McDougall. She is survived by her sons, John David Cook III (Joni) of Ormond Beach, FL and Michael Thomas McCallister (Kari) of Cummings, SC; her daughters, Linda C. Morris of Cumming, GA and Mary Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Lindsay (Jim) of Hobe Sound, FL; grandchildren, Nichole Guest (Jason), Dana Hinterliter, Brooke Lindsay Lofiego (Leo), Mary Kathryn Tarter (Brad), Stephanie Carol Ann Estvanko (Eric), Jessica Lee Morris and Brian David Morris and great grandchildren, Tommy Lofiego, Geffkin Guest, Hayden Guest, Samantha Isola, Tyler Isola, Myah Lofiego and Bradlynn Tarter.
Joyce spent her childhood at Woods Diner and Tourist in Hardeeville which was owned and operated by her parents. After graduating from high school, she married John Cook and had two children, Johnny and Linda. They traveled for many years with the Air Force where she was a stay at home mother. They returned to Ridgeland, SC in 1965. After 17 years of marriage John passed.
Joyce married Tommie McCallister on January 26, 1969. Their two families became one. They were married for 44 years, until Tommie passed on January 13, 2014. During those 44 years they enjoyed camping at Hunting Island and spending time with family and friends. Joyce and Tommie were active in the community and in their church. Joyce retired from Barron’s Department Store as a Manager in 1992.
Joyce’s family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams Street, Ridgeland. Please join Joyce’s family for a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am, Monday, October 15, 2018 at Ridgeland Baptist Church with burial to follow in Ridgeland Cemetery.
