Melonie ‘Joy’ Groves Fender went to heaven on August 23, 2019 in Ridgeland, SC after an extended illness. Melonie was born on July 13, 1933 in Moss Point, Mississippi to Mary Louise ‘Lula’ and Ivon Allen Groves.
She was employed by Joe Harden Builders, Hilton Head Hospital, Cleland Construction and Koret over the course of her career.
She was an active member of Abundant Life Church and in recent years Creative Church.
She was a blessing to all who knew her. Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family were her greatest loves although she made everyone feel as though she was their Mother and Granny too.
She was a wonderful cook and shared her love of that with all. She was a prayer warrior and leaves an awesome Godly legacy to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise and Ivon Allen Groves; her husband, Johnnie Eugene Fender and two daughters, Deborah Faith O’Quinn and Melanie Hope Lowther; sister, Ivon DeDe Dean and niece, Kim Bates.
She is survived by her children, Holly (Cecil) Humbert; Velvia (Ashley) Propst, Brooks Fender; 12 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at Creative Church in Hardeeville at 10:00 am until 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life service to follow. Burial will be at 2:00 pm in Beaufort National Cemetery.
