Robert H. (Bob) Dixon

Robert H. Dixon (Bob) died Nov. 3 at his home in Sun City.  Born in 1937, he attended Kew Forest School in Forest Hills, N.Y, Cornell University and the University of Denver. He received a Masters of Art in Political Science at the University of Colorado in Boulder where he met his wife Ellie who survives him. Bob matriculated as a PH.D student at the University of Connecticut and was a political science professor at Lyndon State College in northeastern Vermont for 40 years. Simultaneously, he was a Caledonia County Democratic Chairperson, Secretary of the Vermont Democratic State Committee and later a Vermont Progressive Party chair in Caledonia County. He was also an editorial ghost writer for the publisher of the Caledonian-Record daily newspaper in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Bob also served for many years as a Vermont Justice of the Peace.

When retiring to Sun City in 2006, Bob became president of the Sun City Democratic Club and later Parliamentarian of the Beaufort County Democratic Executive Committee. He was also an active member of the ROMEO Club in Sun City. He taught American Government as an adjunct at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. Bob was a member of Congregation Beth Yam in Hilton Head.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Brenda Shelley Dixon of Nashua, NH and Laurie Beth Robbins of Rye, NH; a son Marc Dixon and (Melissa Horwitz) of Norwich,VT. and two grandchildren, Megan Liu and Miles Liu.  A private graveside service will be held at Beth Yam Gardens at Six Oaks Cemetery Tuesday. The family will hold shiva hours at their home Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 5-7 and Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. Remembrances can be made in Bob’s memory to Island Hospice, 4A Skidaway Village Walk, Savannah, GA 31411.
