Roberts W. Sterling, better known as Bob, passed away Tuesday, 03 September 2019 in North Augusta, SC.
Born 22 May 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland to James W. and Dorothy R. Sterling, he attended Towson High School in Baltimore, Maryland before joining the U.S. Navy in 1957. He proudly served his country for 20 years and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in 1977. He served several tours in Viet Nam as a Navy Advisor at Military Assistance Command.
Upon retiring from the U.S. Navy, Bob received his degree from St. Leo College and worked for several consulting firms in Washington, D.C. doing Naval logistics work. Upon moving to Hilton Head Island in 1991 with his wife of 41 years, Gertrude, he started his company, Sterling Solutions, Inc. whereas he developed a veterans advocacy software program titled “Veterans Information Management System (VIMS)”. Upon selling his company in 2011 he continued his passion of assisting veterans through his enduring work with the Dennis J. Becker, American Legion Post 205 in Bluffton.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gertrude; sister, Carlton Nebreklievski (Peter) of Ventura California; children, Kristin H. Trafton of Bluffton, Dawn Michelle Peters of Raleigh, NC and David Kyle Hill (Gayle) of Reidsville, NC; five grandchildren, Garner Elizabeth Trafton, Spencer Ellis Trafton, Robert Dylan Stojan, Aaron Todd Hill and Kyndal LeeAnn Hill; one great grandchild, Kylah Mae Stojan; and his nephew and niece, Donovan Nebreklieski (Suzanne Menne) and Danica Nebeklievski.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, September 27th at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton with interment at 2:00 p.m. in Beaufort National Cemetery.
