Thomas R. Burke

Thomas R. Burke, age 83, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Syosset, NY died Monday, January 7, 2019 at Sprenger Health Care in Port Royal, SC.

Mr. Burke was born on August 31, 1935 in Boston, MA, the son of the late William and Mary Burke. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his military tenure he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Massachusetts. He continued his formal education at Columbia University where he earned his Doctorate in Education. He practiced for many years as a professor of exercise physiology at Hunter College of City University of New York. Thomas was a former Commander with the Sun City Veterans Association and was a member of Toastmasters International. He was an avid golfer and in keeping with his profession enjoyed fitness.

Mr. Burke is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, (Mary) Carol Burke and daughter, Alison M. Burke.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Sun City Veterans Association.
