Trey Blackshear Obituary

Trey Jaden Blackshear 18, beloved son of Mary Corey and Derick Blackshear, was born on November 6, 2001, in Savannah, Georgia. Trey attended Hilton Head Elementary and Hilton Head Middle Schools, as well as, Heritage Academy. He graduated from Hilton Head High School on Thursday, December 19th, 2019, with high academic honors and a number of soccer scholarships.

Trey was a bright, friendly young man who many considered a local, triple threat; he was known for his youth and extreme talent; both academically and athletically. An honor student for many years, Trey was a breath of fresh air with an infectious smile that lit up the room or any space that he occupied. Trey was a tall, handsome young man and to know him was to love him. While he was a bit on the quiet side ‘at first’ once he warmed up to you he was full of life. His friends said, “He knew how to make you laugh, even when you were down.” A comedian and life of the party, Trey is greatly loved and adored by family, teachers, coaches, and friends. His humor and strong ability to put a smile on faces will be so greatly missed.

Trey was very respectful, had a firm handshake, and showed wisdom beyond his years. He was an exceptional player for the Tormenta Soccer Club, and highly recognized in all positions, be it forward, center back, left mid, or right mid. Trey was especially looking forward to the 'Disney Wide World of Sports Showcase' in Orlando, FL (held Sat., Dec. 28th-31st, 2019).  Six coaches confirmed they would be coming to observe firsthand, Trey’s athletic abilities that could enhance their college teams. Trey was amazed by the overwhelming responses from many top coaches, who were prepared to offer yet more scholarships to his plethora of offers.

Trey held a 3.5 GPA and was a top-notch player’s player on the field and a coach’s dream. One teammate explained that “Trey (#2) maneuvered brilliantly in any position he was placed and never complained.” His favorite color was blue, but he appreciated all bright colors, which so perfectly matched his vibrant personality and cheerful attitude.

Trey dreamed of taking over his grandpa David's business, which would take him to college where he would major in Business Administration. His desire was never to work for anyone else but to learn from only the best, Grandpa David. A gifted student with a glowing personality, Trey had a strong sense of self and he desired to work hard applying himself in life, just as he had done in both the classroom and on the soccer field.

On the afternoon of Monday, December 23rd, 2019, Trey’s promising life was cut short by God’s infinite wisdom. This lively young man was transitioned from mortal to an immortal vessel not made by human hands. Many believe he is “gone too soon,” however, God makes no mistakes and Trey’s short but meaningful life has brought Glory to God, as it has accomplished His purpose. He made so many happy, as he brought comforting smiles to sad faces. Trey always stood up for others and shared humorous words of wisdom. He lived out God’s plan, laughed often, and loved family, friends, and peers without limits. Trey was a dedicated son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, classmate, comedian, soccer player, and teammate.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving mother, Mary Corey, of Hilton Head Island, SC, a devoted father, Derick Blackshear, of Bluffton, SC, 3 brothers, Cameron Blackshear, Jace Blackshear, and Derrick Blackshear Jr., all of Hilton Head Island, SC, caring grandparents, Sheila Clark and David Mouser of Hilton Head Island, SC, Richard, and Evelena Grant, of Savannah, GA; a host of family members, cousins, friends, and teammates.
