Virginia Thomas (Brunson) McTeer passed away peacefully Sunday, August 11, at Morningside Assisted Living facility in Beaufort, South Carolina.
Born in Grays, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Charles Thomas and Essie Ruth Miller Thomas Brunson.
She received her education at Ridgeland Schools, and (after the age of 40) at Bowling Green State University of Bowling Green, Ohio (B.A.), with advanced degrees from the University of South Carolina and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
She was active in Baptist church life throughout South Carolina and the southeast, conducting seminars and writing. She was a regular columnist with several Baptist periodicals and regularly led conferences at Ridgecrest Assembly in North Carolina, all the while successfully fulfilling the role of pastor's wife.
Her true calling, however, was hands-on teaching. She realized this during her first year of teaching - school year 1964-65 when she taught fifth grade at the Gibsonburg Elementary School in Gibsonburg, Ohio. She loved teaching and she loved each one of her students -- This love continued as she taught in Ohio and South Carolina schools until her retirement.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Benjamin McTeer, by two infant children, Benjamin and Billie, and by her brothers, Charlie Thomas, Ronald Brunson, and Otis Brunson. She is survived by three children: Thomas McTeer (wife - Sonja), Katherine Henson (husband - Timothy), and Marcus McTeer (wife - Heidi); by eight grandchildren: Bradley, Heather, Julie, Victor, Connor, Gavin, Bryce, and Aidan; by seven great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p m, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Grays, SC with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
