Albert A. Thiess, Jr., 70, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017, at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Thiess was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Helen and Albert A. Thiess, Sr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Rapp. Mr. Thiess graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in accounting. He was a CPA for thirty-six years with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. During his career he was the Managing Partner of the Grand Rapids and Detroit, Michigan offices, and the Los Angeles, California office before transferring to the New York office to manage Global Affairs Infrastructure. Corporal Thiess served his country in the USMC on the MCDOSET-EC Audit Team traveling to its many bases on the east coast. Also, he was a member of the USMC Golf Team while stationed at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. Mr. Thiess had a passion for golf. He was the Chairman of the 2015 USGA Junior Amateur Championship held at the Colleton River Club. During his college years, Mr. Thiess played on the Michigan State University Men’s Golf Team. Mr. Thiess is survived by his wife, Willa, sons Derek Thiess of Denver, Colorado, and Brandon Thiess and his wife, Chelsea Smith of Bluffton, South Carolina. Also, a niece, Stefanie Rapp of Nashville, Tennessee, and sisters-in-law Karen Greene of Chesterland, Ohio, and Gaye and Craig Urban of Ada, Michigan, and their families. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, South Carolina followed by a funeral service at 5:00 pm.
