Alexander Frazer Carthay
Born April 16, 1924 in Queens, New York, to Harriet Elisabeth Carthay and Edward Frazer Carthay. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Edith Whitstock Carthay, on August 23, 2003. He is survived by: Three children, George Frazer Carthay and his wife Terry Berezewski Carthay, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, R. Jonathan Carthay and his wife Jane Brem Carthay of New York, New York, and Jill Carthay Willcox of Ridgeland, South Carolina. Two grandchildren, Patrick Frazer Carthay and Meghan Carthay Safranek, and two great grandchildren, Ava Grace Safranek and Aiden James Safranek of Chicago, Illinois.
He was a WWII veteran who served in the South Pacific in the Army Air Corps during the war. He and his wife were avid sailors, and retired from their business in 1975 to live on their boat �Bacchante�, which they had lovingly restored with the help of their son Jon. After many years of living on their boats, they moved to White Springs, Florida, in 1998. Mr. Carthay recently moved to Ridgeland, South Carolina and was a resident at Ridgeland Nursing Center. He passed away in his sleep on October 8, 2014.
