Alexander Ameer, Jr, from Bluffton, SC, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2012 at the age of 78. After a tough year battling cancer, in the end it was his heart that failed him. Known to his friends as Al, he was born in Yonkers, NY on July 4, 1934 to Julia and Alexander Ameer and was the youngest of 4 siblings, Grace, Albert, Betsy, and Sue. Al was the first of his of siblings to go to college and received a well-rounded education that included NYU, Davis & Elkins and graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a BS in Engineering. Al had a very successful career as an aerospace engineer. He began his 37 year career at Singer Kearfott and over the years, the company changed many hands. He was well respected in his field and also prone to a practical joke or two. Al married Diana Hill, after a blind date, on April 27, 1968 and they lived in Basking Ridge and Chester, NJ and then moved to Bluffton in 2000 to live out his dream with a house on a golf course. He was fortunate to spend many years golfing and enjoying good times with friends and family. Al is survived by his wife, Diana, daughter, Victoria Kiely, son-in-law, John, and his grandchildren, Hannah and Alex. He is also survived by his sister Betsy as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.A memorial service will be held on November 20, 2012 at All Saints Episcopal Church, Hilton Head at 11am and donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Al had a strong presence and was known for being honest, fair, very generous and if you knew him well, you were privy to his dry sarcastic sense of humor. He loved his wife and family and adored his young grandchildren. Al was a man that you can never forget.
