Alfred Weiss, 82, of Bluffton, SC passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at Hilton Head Hospital.He was born on August 2, 1929 in Leipzig, Germany, the son of the late Samuel and Rega Weiss.His family lived in Krakow, Poland until 1939 and then became refugees in the former Soviet Union. They made their way back to Western Europe after the War and came to the United States in 1948 where they lived in New York. He was a graduate of the City College of New York and obtained his Masters in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University.He was a US Army veteran. He was an electrical engineer for IBM for 30 years, living mostly in Poughkeepsie, NY. He moved to Bluffton, SC in 2006. He was a member of Temple Oseh Shalom, President of the International Friendship Club of Sun City and a member of the Sun City Chess Club.He is survived by his wife, Marsha Weiss of Bluffton, SC; sons Marc Weiss of Poughkeepsie, NY and Jay (AnnaMaria) Weiss of Clearwater, FL; and brother Rudolph (Linde) Weiss of Bowie, MD.Memorials may be made to the United States Memorial Holocaust Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg PL, SW, Washington, DC 20024.A service will be held at 2pm, Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Sauls Funeral Home Chapel, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton with burial to follow at Oseh Shalom Memorial Gardens.
