Alice Louise Collins Golde

Alice Louise Collins Golde, 89, of Callawassie Island, SC, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2016 at Hospice Austin Christopher House in Austin, Texas. Alice was born in New York on December 4, 1926, to Hazel and Russell Collins. She was a graduate of Bayside High School and Queens College, and worked in laboratory research at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. At a post war high school reunion, Alice reconnected with former classmate William Golde Jr. They married in 1950, residing in East Meadow and Huntington, NY, where they raised their five children. After attending Adelphi University, Alice received a Master’s degree in education, taught science, and was appointed to the NYS Dental Board. Upon retirement, Alice and Bill moved to Callawassie Island SC, to delight in the Low Country lifestyle. Alice found joy in choral music as a member of parish choirs and the Callawassie Island Chorus, enjoyed golf, bridge, weekly Bible study, book club and visits with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After 61 years of marriage, Alice was predeceased by her husband, Bill, in 2011. She is survived by her children, Peter (Elizabeth) Golde of Austin, TX; Patricia (Bruce) Sentoff of Liverpool, NY; William (Maria) Golde of Edinburgh, Scotland; Elizabeth Golde of Callawassie Island SC; Timothy Golde of Hilton Head Island, SC; grandchildren Nicholas, Kristen, Brian, Daniel, Jonathan, Karen, Matthew, William, Katherine and Meghan; great grandchildren Joseph, Isabel, Emma and August; brother-in-law John (Jean) Golde of East Northport, NY, and many loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 9th at 10:30am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton SC, followed by the burial at Beaufort National Cemetery beside her husband.
