Allan Porter Smith, 87, of Bluffton, SC passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 at his home.
Allan was born December 18, 1936 in Orange, NJ, The son of the late Allan Porter Smith and Irma Adams Smith. He was raised in East Orange NJ. After graduation, Allan served our country in the U.S Army for several years and then graduated from Upsula College. He was employed for over 30 years at Union Carbide. He married Grace Gail Lang in 1962 and raised three sons. Gail passed in 1990 from lung cancer. He moved to Wilmington, NC and met Deborah Rose Wilson in 1998, and married in 1999. Allan and Deborah traveled and saw the country for several years, and had an amazing trip to Israel. They moved to Bluffton, SC to enjoy the slow life of the Low Country.
He was a man of God, ODAT and enjoyed attending Community Bible Church. Allan was a mover and shaker and loved meeting new people. He was involved with the Jump Start Prison Ministry Program in SC. He loved fishing, beekeeping, biking, ham radio, boating, exploring roads less traveled and camping.
His wife of 25 years, Deborah Smith, and his sister Karin Smith Bell (Duncan) of Virginia Beach survives Allan. Allan and Gail had three sons, Allan Porter Smith, Jr. “Chip”, (Emma) of Cheshire CT, Scott Pierson Smith of Middlebury, CT, and Mark Adams Smith (Shierley) of Binghamton, NY. Allan was survived by four stepchildren, Jon Wilson, (Darlene), David Wilson, (Angela), Sara Wilson Broome (Barry), and Paul Wilson, as well as fifteen grandchildren, Malone, Sydney, Brooke, Jessie, Brittany, Rachel, Barrett, Sam, Hanna, Erin, Ally, Tina, Eddie, Fraizer and Randy. Allan was also a great-grandfather to Mackenzie, Hendrix and Parker.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 22, 2024 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. The service will be live streamed at www.saulsfh.com.
