June 12, 1960 - June 8, 2022 (age 61)
There is no love like the love for a brother. There is no love like the love from a brother. Allen Hansel Thompson left this world unexpectedly Wednesday, June 8, 2022. He was born on June 12, 1960, in Atlanta, GA. Hansel was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Thompson and Gretchen Mingledorff Thompson, and his niece, Ashley Anderson.
Hansel graduated from Henderson High School in 1978 and attended Emory at Oxford College, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in 1980. He then attended Emory University and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1982. Hansel moved to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1985 to pursue a career in residential real estate appraising and in 1990 became a founding partner at Ingram and Thompson Certified Residential Appraisers. He was a member of the Hilton Head Area Association of REALTORS® and Multiple Listing Service. Through his business connections he was well known by the home builders, real estate agents, and bankers. Hansel was experienced in buying and renovating homes and villas, mainly as a hobby. He was an early supporter and Class Host for the annual Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Concours d'Elegance and was also a member of the Coastal Empire Region - Porsche Club of America (CERPA).
Hansel’s passions for sports cars and sailing were only surpassed by his love for his children, family, and his beloved Jennifer. His kindness and compassion for people were displayed every day with a phone call or a hand- written letter to family and friends. Hansel loved to tell stories and never forgot a detail. His memories of childhood trips to Lake Burton, camping at Road Atlanta, and neighborhood frolics were among his favorites. Hansel had an infectious sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to make you smile. He never met a stranger, cherished all his friends, and coveted his relationships. Hansel was truly loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Hansel is survived by his loved ones: son, Jimmy Thompson (Dana Pointe, CA), daughter, Alexandra Thompson (Hilton Head Island, SC), and their mother Jennifer Ahrendt Thompson, (Hilton Head Island, SC); siblings Mary Anne Thompson Cauthen (Phil), Michael Thompson (Ann), Gretchen Thompson Anderson (Craig), as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
As God calls us one by one the chain will link again.
