Allison H. Fickling, Sr., 86, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 at his home under the care of Agape Hospice of the Low Country.
He was born in Ridgeland, SC on May 11, 1930 to the late Henry Edgar Fickling, Sr. and Clyde Horton Fickling. He served four years in the U.S. Navy stationed in California. He was employed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources for 26 years. During that time, he served as Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the Division of Commercial Fisheries, was awarded “Officer of the Year” in 1975, and retired as Sergeant. After retirement he went on to start a commercial shrimping business with his wife, Gladys, and worked in a supervisory role for Jordan Construction of Hilton Head for 15 years. He was a local artist and a skillful and avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Ridgeland, SC.
Allison was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Floyd Fickling. He is survived by his one son, Allison H. Fickling, Jr. (Carol) of Tillman; three daughters, Donna Yatro of Ridgeland, Lynne Horry (Malcolm) of Okatie, and Denise Horry (John D.) of Grahamville; his brother, Henry E. Fickling, Jr.; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 7488 W. Main St., Ridgeland,, SC with burial at Floyd Cemetery, Tillman, SC.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to The Floyd Cemetery Fund, 742 Glover Rd. Ridgeland, SC 29936.
