We are deeply saddened to announce that Alma Jean “AJ” Swanson, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, January 5, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father Robert R. Laird, mother Emily Blanche Laird, and brother Robert R. Laird, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Swanson, and children: Charles “Chip” Swanson (Diane), James “Jim” Swanson (Tracy), and Richard “Rick” Swanson (Shelley). She is also survived by five grandchildren: Zachary, Brady, Richard Jeremy “RJ”, Megan, and Emma Swanson.
She was born on November 27th, 1943 in Pittsburgh PA. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and went on to be a very successful mathematics teacher for the Franklin Regional School District in Murrysville, PA. She taught for over 30 years with the majority of those years spent at Franklin Regional.
AJ, a loving and caring wife, was the cornerstone of her family. Her unwavering dedication to her role as wife, mother, and grandmother, created a home filled with warmth, love, and laughter. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be etched in the hearts of her loved ones.
She was not only a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, but also an exceptional teacher who touched the lives of countless students throughout her career. Her passion for education made her a cherished mentor to many. Her kindness, compassion, and infectious joy endeared her to everyone she met.
As we grieve the loss of this remarkable woman, let us remember AJ with gratitude for the love, joy, and wisdom that she shared with us.
Respects may be paid to the family on Friday, January 12, from 3pm to 7pm at Hart Funeral Home, Inc in Murrysville, PA. Funeral services will also be held at Hart Funeral Home, Inc on Saturday, January 13 with a viewing from 9am to 11am and services following. Interment will follow at the Eastview Union Cemetery in Delmont, PA.
A celebration of life service will also be held on Saturday, February 3rd at the Okatee Baptist Church in Ridgeland, SC from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
