Andrew L. Arruza

Andrew Louis Arruza, 86, of Bluffton, SC passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026 at his home.

Andy was born January 26, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late Leocadio Arruza and Margaret Demaroney Arruza. He attended school in Milbrook, NY and Blowing Rock, NC. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War, and as a U.S. Amy Chaplain for several years. After his discharge from the military, Andy enjoyed teaching theology at the local college. He then became the Pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Jacksonville, NC, until his retirement in 1998. Upon retirement, Andy and his wife, Linda (Thompson) Arruza, moved to Bluffton, SC to enjoy Lowcountry living. He found joy in the new friendships they made and cheering on the Atlanta Braves!

In addition to his wife of 31 years, Andy is survived by his son, Leo Arruza of NY; daughters, Angela Anson of MI and Susan Sullivan (Bruce) of NY; brother, James Arruza of NC; grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan (Grace), and Cassandra; and great-grandchildren, Theo, Lorenzo, and Willow.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 13, 2026 at Okatee Baptist Church, 5467 Okatie Hwy, Bluffton, with burial to follow at 2:00 pm at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church.
