It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Anne “Careatha” Wade, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life on December 12, 2024, after a prolonged illness. Born on April 7, 1939, in Smoaks, SC, she was the cherished daughter of Isadore and Marie Stevens and the eldest of three siblings.
Known affectionately as Calsa by her family and Careatha by her friends, Anne's journey through life was marked by dedication to education and a love for her family. She attended primary and secondary schools in Colleton County before pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC. It was here that she met the love of her life, Willie Wade, with whom she would share 59 wonderful years of marriage.
Throughout her life, Anne was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority and embraced every opportunity to uplift those around her. After graduating college, she moved to Brooklyn, NY, before relocating to Lynchburg, VA, and eventually making her home in Baltimore, MD. It was in Baltimore that she earned her Master of Science in Special Education from Coppin State College and dedicated over two decades to shaping young minds and bodies as a Physical Education teacher within the Baltimore City Public School System as a Special Needs educator.
Anne's greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Anita Hines, and her love for her grandson, Kendall Hines, who she often referred to as her son, knew no bounds. Anne had a vibrant personality and a passion for life, evident in her love of dancing, traveling, and spending time outdoors. She was known for her impeccable style and grace, always leaving an impression on those fortunate enough to know her.
After retiring, Anne returned to her home state of South Carolina, settling in Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, where she embraced her new community with open arms, forging lasting friendships with her neighbors.
Anne leaves behind her devoted husband, Willie Wade; her loving daughter, Anita (Stacey) Hines; her adored grandson, Kendall Hines, along with a host of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Anne “Careatha” Wade will be remembered for her unparalleled spirit and the love she brought into the lives of everyone she met. May she rest in peace, forever loved, and missed.
