Arthur William Cochran Iii

Arthur W. “Butch” Cochran III Butch Cochran, 70, of Sun City, SC and formerly of Auburn, NH succumbed to his seven month battle with brain cancer, on December 28th at his home, surrounded by his family. Butch was born July 10, 1946 in Manchester, NH, the son of the late Arthur W. Cochran Jr. and Ruth Fontaine Cochran. He was raised in Hooksett, NH and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp upon graduation from Concord High School. He was MP of the Month, Marine of the Month, Regimental Marine of the Month and had two meritorious promotions giving him the rank of Sergeant by age 20. He was on the third helicopter ashore for the U.S.M.C. evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Santa Domingo in 1965. He served in Vietnam from December 1966 – January 1968. He spoke Vietnamese and was in charge of Combined Action Platoon #7. In April 1968 he married his wife of 48 years, Tracy Anne Swift, after a two-week courtship. They lived in New Hampshire where he worked for New England Telephone (Nynex) (Verizon) for 15 years; worked with his wife in multi-level marketing for 10 years and later worked as a consultant and project manager for multiple companies prior to his retirement. He was preceded in death by his 2 year-old daughter Carrie Anne. He is survived by his wife Tracy Swift Cochran; sons, retired U.S.M.C. Gunnery Sergeant Arthur W. “Skip” Cochran IV & Kristie of Bluffton, SC and former U.S.M.C. Corporal Patrick Alan Cochran & wife, Lisa of Manchester, NH; sister, Polly Anderson & husband, Jake of Hampton, NH; brother, Stephen Cochran & wife, Sandi Matheson of Hooksett, NH; grandchildren, Ashley, Alex & Liam Cochran and step grandchild, Haleigh Przybyla. He looked forward to welcoming (newly engaged to Alex Cochran) Sydney Fosnight and her daughter Taylor into the Cochran family. He was a life member of DAV Queen City Chapter 12; American Legion Post 79, Manchester, NH and VFW Post 3041, Lancaster, NH. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
