Arthur E. Koeppel, Iii

On February 14th, 2023 Arthur Edward Koeppel III (known fondly as “Grandpa Heart”) died at his home in Bluffton, SC holding hands with his Valentine, Kathy. He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Kathy, his daughters, Kathy, Debbie, Jessica, and Amanda, his son-in-laws who affectionately called him “Sir Mr. Koeppel Sir”, and his 9 grandchildren.

He lived a full life of love, music, travel, and all things gadgets. He grew up in New Jersey, earned the impressive rank of Eagle Scout in his youth, and attended Ithaca college.

He was an amazingly talented piano player. Among the songs in his repertoire, his most requested included “Maple Leaf Rag” by Scott Joplin, the "Make the Baby Dance" song, and his original rendition of "Raindrops on Roses" that wove in bits and pieces of "Take Five" in the most wonderful way.

In the early 90s he brought the camcorder to every event and invested early in video editing software. We are honored to have some amazing 90s home videos paired with music and well-timed transitions – the original Instagram Reel.

In his empty nester years in Sun City he starred in some intricate and entertaining routines including Ballroom, Hip Hop, and Clogging. He was our own Fred Astaire.

His mustache was iconic and always paired with a smile. Be it a delicious burger, a fabulous view, or learning a new routine, he frequently said, “This is INCREDIBLE!” He felt like one lucky guy, and we are lucky to have been loved by him. He never missed an opportunity to tell his daughters they made him proud, and we always knew it even after he lost his words.

We are holding a memorial on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 12:30pm-1:30pm at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, South Carolina. Afterward, there will be a celebration of life at Jameson's Original Charhouse (671 Cypress Hills Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909) until 4pm.
