Arthur Louis Schwager, Jr.

July 21, 1946 — January 24, 2015

Art Schwager, 68, was carried from the arms of his wife, Sherry, to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 24, 2015. Everyone who knew Art knows that God was waiting with open arms to welcome him home. Art's number one priority throughout his life was his family. He and Sherry were married in 1968, and a full life followed...filled with 4 children - Dave, Kristin, Andy, and Jim - added in-laws...and 10 beautiful grandchildren. He supported Sherry in her many church organist positions and usually became treasurer of the church...cheered for all four children in 14 years of marching band...coached Little League baseball for 20 years...taught the kids how to change a wall switch...and put in windows...and how to change the oil in the car...treasured holding each tiny grandchild as soon as they were born...was immensely proud of his children and shared that pride with anyone he met. He provided for them...nurtured them...loved them with all his heart. Art was born July 21, 1946 in Trenton, New Jersey and remained in the Trenton area until his retirement to Sun City in Bluffton, South Carolina in 2006. He graduated from Rider College (now Rider University) in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and began his "financial genius" career with Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. After a 38 year career at ETS he retired as a Contract Administrator. His famous line was "you don't retire FROM something, you retire TO something"...and that he did. Sun City became home. And he enjoyed every minute of time spent there. Art was predeceased by his mother, Doris Schwager, his father, Arthur Schwager, Sr., and his step-mother, Laura Schwager, and his brother-in-law, Lyle Rockefeller. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sherry; his sons, Dave Schwager (Christy), Andy Schwager (Rachel), and Jim Schwager (Jeanette); his "favorite" daughter, Kristin Meeker; 10 grandchildren Miranda Wells (the oldest but not the first), Kelly Schwager (the first but not the oldest), Evan Wells, Ryan Schwager, Sydney Meeker, Meagan Meeker, Dylan Schwager, Ruby Schwager, Anderson Schwager and Cassidy Schwager; a sister, Kathy Rockefeller; a brother Charles (Marie) and 4 nephews. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Visitation is Friday, January 30, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. The service will follow at 5:00 pm. Donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O.
