Arthur Frederick Sevret

August 13, 1944 — January 1, 2025

Arthur Frederick Sevret passed away peacefully in Hilton Head, South Carolina on January 1, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on August 13, 1944, in Hillside, New Jersey, Art was known for his dedication to family, community, and his enduring love of nature.

In his early years, Art's family moved to Mount Hope, New Jersey, where tragedy struck with the passing of his father when Art was only seven. Anna Sevret, became a pillar of strength, guiding her family through challenging times while managing Otto's Dugout.

Art became a respected figure in the community through his nearly four-decade-long presidency of the Rockaway Township Sportsmen Association. Art's belief in nurturing youth through nature was evident as he organized environmental initiatives, fishing contests, and community picnics dedicated to veterans and the disabled, forever leaving an imprint of kindness and environmental stewardship.  In 1990 he was honored to be the first Citizen of the year for Rockaway Township.

A defining aspect of his legacy was the restoration of the historic log cabin on Mt. Hope Pond. Originally constructed by Boy Scout Troop 12, the cabin thrived anew under Art's care. Through his initiative, the Sportsmen Association ensured the cabin's upkeep, fostering opportunities for youth groups to engage with the outdoors and hosting timeless traditions like the trout fishing contest, where every child felt victorious.

Art was admired in his professional life as well, spending his career as a program manager at Howmet Casting in Dover, New Jersey. His work took him far and wide, creating friendships across Europe and the United States that were as strong and lasting as his commitment to his career. Retirement did not slow Art's community involvement. He was a dedicated first responder with the Rockaway Township Fire Department, Company 2, continually lending a helping hand as a volunteer with the rescue squad.

For 40 years, Art shared life with his beloved wife Laurie, building a relationship centered on mutual support and shared values. Together they left a legacy of community service, actively engaging with local affairs, from volunteering with the Rockaway Township Fire and Rescue Department to participating in their Hilton Head community board.

Surviving Art are his beloved daughters, Lisa Sevret and Dana Maino her husband Tom. Art’s loving Grandchildren Anna Maino and Stephanie Uhnak (Maino) her husband Brian his great granddaughter Maggie Uhnak; his loving sister, Christine Sevret, his brother in law and his wife, Mitch and Barbara Hakoun, as well as many Nieces, Nephews, and greats.   Predeceasing him are his sister Caroline Kepler, brother John Sevret, sister Lorraine Talmadge as well as their spouses, his brother Bobby Sevret, and his parents, Anna and John Sevret Sr. Those who were fortunate enough to know him experienced firsthand his infectious warmth and humor, qualities that elevated and enriched their lives.
