Augustus J. Sayko, 91, of Sun City passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at NHC Health Care in Bluffton. Born in Carteret, New Jersey, he spent much of his youth in Pennsylvania. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater as a member of the United States Army Air Forces. After graduating from school in Kansas City, Missouri, he began a long technical career. While working for AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, he received a patent for developing a process for the fabrication of semiconductor devices. After retiring in 1987, he devoted time to his hobbies and crafts, including wood carving and origami. A resident of Sun City since 1997, he was an active volunteer for the Sun City Computer Club for many years. He is survived by his wife Jean of Sun City and his son Michael of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his sisters Margaret and Barbara, and his brother James, all from Pennsylvania. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton on Tuesday, March 15 at 10:30 am with burial at 1:00 pm at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC. All are welcome to attend.
