BARBARA LEE ARNOLD (nee POWELL) 86, Hilton Head Island December 23, 1927 - December 6, 2014 Barbara Lee Arnold, a resident of Spanish Pointe and, more recently, The Cypress, died on December 6th of congestive heart failure in her home. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service and her remains will be cremated at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton. Barbara was born on Dec. 23, 1927 in Whittenburg (now Phillips), Texas. The only child of John Maurice Powell and Alice Libbey Tucker Powell, she spent most of her childhood in Indianapolis. Barbara attended Short Ridge High School, graduating in 1944 and then attended DePauw and Ball State Universities working summers at L.S. Ayres Department Store in downtown Indianapolis. She met her husband, William P. Arnold, at the store and they married on February 15, 1950. Barbara is survived by her son, Stephen Arnold, her daughter, Alice Lee Brewer, her grandchildren, John and Mark Arnold, and three great-grandchildren, Lorelei, Damon and Braeden. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother, able to tackle any challenge including Junior League, home decorating, sewing and needlework. When her husband passed away in 1984, she continued her zest for life, traveling to Africa five times because of her strong love for animals. She had a playful sense of humor and enjoyed canasta and cribbage with friends. Barbara will always be remembered for her sweet gentle nature and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Attn: Development, 330 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215. Please make checks payable to "Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center" and include Mrs. Barbara L. Arnold in the check memo line. All gifts will support The Arnold-Warfield Pain Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
