Barbara M. Hinck, born December 20, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY has died at her home in Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina on June 15, 2021. She is survived by her dear friend Janet Van Name, at the Sun City residence and her longtime friend Teresita Glinoga, M.D., who also resides in Sun City. Other survivors are her niece, Barbara Ann Carey-Shaw, PhD and two nephews, Thomas and William Carey of Long Island, New York.
After graduating from a Brooklyn High School, she received a scholarship to attend the Peter L. Grace Business School and upon graduation she became an Executive Secretary at the major Wall Street firm of Winslow, Cohen and Stetson. On leaving after three years, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in Ossining, NY but left after a short time to begin service in the health care sector. In 1971, she became a Program Research Analyst in the Bureau of Ambulatory Care and rose to Assistant Director. In 1975, she was acting Director, Bureau of Chronic Disease Control until named as Director of Chronic and Long Term Care in Medicaid. Later she became a successful certified financial planner (CFP).
She holds a BA and MA degrees from Goddard College and an RN diploma from St. Catherine’s Hospital School of Nursing.
A private memorial service and inurnment (Pinelawn Cemetery in New York) will be held at a later date.
