Benjamin (Ben) Robins Muhlberg, of Bluffton, SC, passed away on November 10, 2021 at the age of 90 after a long battle with heart disease. Ben is remembered for having a dry sense of humor, quick wit, and a love for cats.
Ben was born February 15, 1931 In Rutland, VT to Mary Robins Muhlberg and David Israel Muhlberg. A graduate of the Rutland public school system, Ben earned a degree in Education from Oklahoma State University before serving his country during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the US Army.
After his service in the Army, Ben moved to New York City, where his affinity for cats led him to the love of his life, the former Hope Louise Nathan of Harrisburg, PA. The two lived in the same building, and Ben struck up a conversation with Hope by offering to introduce her to his new kitten. Ben and Hope married in 1958 at the Plaza Hotel. They settled in Somerset, NJ before moving to East Brunswick, NJ, where they raised their three children.
Ben and Hope retired to Ocala, FL, where they enjoyed a rich life together for just a few years before Hope lost her battle to ovarian cancer. In 2001, Ben married Betty Adler, also of Ocala, but the pair divorced in 2020.
Ben is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Hope; and his brother, Jerome Muhlberg. He is survived by his children, Maryann, Howard, and Ilene; his son-in-law, Glenn; his daughter-in-law, Laurel; and his grandchildren, Bryan, Madison, Julian, Nathan, and Joseph. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence; his sister-in-law, Ellen; and several nieces and nephews.
Ben will be buried in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, next to his wife, Hope.
