Betty Rawlings Batson

Betty Rawlings Batson of Hilton Head Island and formerly Greenville, SC passed away March 10, 2014. She was born July 22, 1929 to James Warren and Mabel Mosley Rawlings. She graduated from Greenville high School and attended Randolph Macon Women's College. Betty was a talented entrepreneur and a pioneer for business women in the South. She established and directed one of the most successful dancing schools in South Carolina during the 1960's. Many of Greenville's most prominent residents were students of The DeMint Academy of Dance and Decorum. After relocating to Hilton Head, Betty became one of the most successful real estate brokers on the island. Her work ethic was unparalleled and clients often became her dearest friends. She opened Batson Brokerage in 1993 and continued her successful career until her health forced her retirement. Her passion for work was great, but her family was her greatest pride. Betty is survived by her six children and their spouses: Tom and Judy DeMint, Jim and Debbie DeMint, Scott and Tanna DeMint, Kit DeMint Oswald and John Oswald, Hailey Batson Tuttle and Bruce Tuttle, and John and Alice Batson. Most importantly Betty was the loving grandmother of 9 grand children and 7 great grand children. Grammy will be missed by all! A private service will be held at Six Oaks Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held at the South Carolina Yacht Club on Saturday March 22 from 3-5PM. Former friends, neighbors, clients and colleagues are encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry or the Hilton Head Human Society. A private service will be held at Six Oaks Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held at the South Carolina Yacht Club on Saturday March 22 from 3-5PM. Former friends, neighbors, clients and colleagues are encouraged to attend.
