Betty Lucille (Cawthon) Horton

Betty Lucille (Cawthon) Horton, age 85, died Wednesday, November 22, 2023 in Ridgeland, SC. Mrs. Horton was born in Savannah, GA on July 14th, 1938 to the late Vernon W. Cawthon, Sr. and Lucille Sommers Cawthon.

Betty was the co-owner of NM Horton & Sons BP Service Center and Convenience Store in Coosawhatchie, SC. She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, The Red Hats, and also the Ridgeland Jayceettes; she held many offices. She never met a stranger and loved to talk.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman M. Horton, Sr., a brother, Vernon W. Cawthon, four brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.

Betty is survived by three sons, Norman M. Horton, Jr. (Shannon) of Varnville, SC, Glenn K. Horton (Margie) of Gilbert, SC, Gary L. Horton (Cindy) of Anderson, SC; three sisters-in-law, Lillian Cawthon of Rincon, GA, Hilda Horton of Bluffton, SC, Joyce Jacobs of Lexington, SC; six grandchildren, Glenn K. Horton II (Sarah), Zachary R. Horton, Chase G. Horton (Brittany), Grayson E. Horton, Kimberly Anderson (Justin), Danny Ragsdale ( Ashley); and eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.

She is also survived by one grand-dog, Molly Horton.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Ridgeland. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 pm until the time of the service at the church.
