Betty Jane (Cook) Golden

January 22, 1924 — August 19, 2021

Bluffton, SC – Betty Jane Cook Golden, affectionately known to all as Grammie, died peacefully Thursday, the 19 th of August, at home with family in Bluffton.  She was a long time resident of the Lowcountry.  She was preceded in death by Henry Mitchell Golden III (son), Robert A. Koester (son-in-law), Grant Chandler (great grandson) and Derek Boully (great grandson).

Born January 22, 1924 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Grammie was the second oldest child of Reverend Harold A. and Mary E. Cook’s six children.  In the mid 1920’s, Reverend Cook moved his young family to Porter, Alabama where he was called to pastor a Baptist church.  Grammie was Valedictorian of her middle school graduating class and was awarded the Sportsmanship Award upon graduation from high school. Grammie then attended Southeastern Bible College where her father was a teacher. In her thirties and forties Grammie lived in Orlando, Florida and Hamburg, New York.

In 1973, she moved to Hilton Head Island and worked at The Island Shop until its closure in 1986.  Grammie finished her career as an inventory control administrator and co-manager for The Goldsmith Shop on Hilton Head Island.  She had boundless energy and worked full time until she retired at 84 years old!

Grammie loved serving others, good food, and getting dressed up.  She volunteered at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and was a faithful member of Grace Community Church.  Her constant smile would light up the room and she never met a stranger.

She is survived by her two daughters, Judith Golden Koester, Brenda Golden Fronczak (Gary), eight grandchildren, Brenda Golden Lattimer, Donny Boully, Robert Golden, Annette Golden, Kevin Koester (Carolyn),  Kelly Koester Chandler (Robi), Ashley Fronczak Tamayo (Richard) and Sarah Jane Fronczak.  She is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
