Betty Jean Craig

Betty Jean Craig, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born on May 20, 1938, in Tazewell, Virginia, to the late John R. Kinder and Stella M. Jones.

A proud graduate of Tazewell High School, Betty pursued her love of caregiving by attending nursing school, where she became a licensed practical nurse. Over the years she served in many roles, including secretary to the Vice President at Poly-Scientific in Blacksburg, Virginia, and later as a devoted nurse in Hilton Head Island, working at both The Seabrook and The Cypress of Hilton Head.

Betty’s life was filled with love and dedication to her family. She first married Lloyd H. Christian, with whom she shared two beloved children, Sharon and Dean. In 1974, she married her second husband, Harold M. Craig, and together they built a new chapter of life on Hilton Head Island, embracing the coastal community they came to call home.

Those who knew Betty will remember her for her strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and patients. She touched countless lives with her kindness, professionalism, and warm heart.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon J. Horowitz (Lewis); her son, Lloyd D. Christian; four grandchildren, Victoria L. Galvan, Brandon D. Christian, Justin H. Christian, and Joshua H. Christian; one step-grandchild, Cody A. Horowitz (Ashlie); seven great-grandchildren, Erika R. Lozano (Eric), Jasmyn M. Tobias, Tiffini J. Tobias, Joseph K. Sigler, Laila N. Willis, Janaya E. Willis, and Londyn A. Early; one step-great-grandchild, Leo T. Horowitz; and two great-great-grandchildren, Izaiah L. Lozano and Zophia E. Lozano.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Craig; her brother, James T. Kinder; her sister, Martha S. Morici; and her granddaughter, Carie Ayn McKinley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Sauls Funeral Home for their guidance, comfort, and support through this difficult time.
