Beverly Ann Thiel

Beverly Ann Thiel, age 70 of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Long Island, NY died Monday, October 6, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Thiel was born in Baltimore, MD on September 2, 1944, the daughter of Alverta Mordan and Euzema Smith. She worked as a flight attendant for many years, retiring from American Airlines. After retirement and upon arriving in South Carolina, she became involved with Julies Mission as well as dance and musical activities offered within the Sun City-Hilton Head community. She was proficient in organ and piano and taught both. She was the 1962 Miss Maryland and won the talent competition in the Miss America Pageant that year. She was also the 2013 Ms. Senior South Carolina. Mrs. Thiel is survived by her mother, Alverta Mordan; her loving husband, Helmut Thiel; daughters, Kathleen Murphy of Buffalo, NY and Kimberly Griner and husband Travis, also of Buffalo, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Aaron, Nicholas, and Tyler and her step-grandchildren, Travis Jr., Christopher, Allyson, and Anthony. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 13, 2014 at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, 875 Lincoln Way E, McConnellsburg, PA 17233 with burial following at Asbury Cemetery in Harrisonville, PA. Subsequently, a memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
